Research Associate – Power Engineering & Machine Learning

About the role

The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Nanyang Technological University seeks a Research Associate to advance lithium‑ion battery modelling, state‑of‑charge estimation, and wireless charging optimisation. The role combines power‑engineering expertise with data‑driven machine‑learning techniques to improve battery safety, efficiency, and performance.

Key responsibilities

• Develop physics‑based, data‑driven models for lithium‑ion batteries (SOC, temperature, health).
• Design and implement state estimation algorithms for SOC/SOH.
• Create and refine optimisation algorithms for wireless power transfer systems.
• Analyse experimental data, clean datasets, extract features and generate insights.
• Build simulation models using Python, MATLAB, and LTspice for battery and WPT circuits.
• Integrate battery models with charging control strategies and validate them in the laboratory.
• Document methodologies, results and findings in technical reports and publications.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members on research projects.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Experience in control‑algorithm development and predictive maintenance research.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills.
