Research Associate (Random Lasing)

About the role

The School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is hiring a Research Associate to support research on random lasing. The post holder works with the Principal Investigators (PIs) and collaborates with external partners, and plays a key role in developing systems for bioimaging and metrology.

Key responsibilities

• Perform research in experimental optics, random lasing, optical imaging, spectroscopy and metrology, and develop novel approaches to these fields and their instrumentation.
• Conduct and coordinate research within NTU and collaborators under the supervision of the PIs.
• Manage research projects in a team setting, mentoring students and working with research fellows, collaborators and support staff.
• Publish research outcomes in international journals and present findings at academic meetings.
• Draft research reports for PIs, help draft project proposals and take on other management tasks as required.
• Take part in meetings, committees and working groups where necessary.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety in all research work.

Required profile

• Master's degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Precision Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Physics or a similar discipline, with a background in optics, imaging, spectroscopy and instrumentation.
• Previous experience in optics, random lasing, optical measurement technologies, metrology and Raman spectroscopy is desirable.
• Expertise in 3D printing is an added advantage.
• Proven publication record is an advantage.

Required skills

• Handling and maintenance of high-power CW and pulsed laser systems, spectrometers, high-resolution cameras and delicate optical components is desirable.
• Programming, optical instrumentation, automation and data processing skills such as C++, LabVIEW, Zemax, OSLO, TracePro, MATLAB, Python and ImageJ.
