Research Engineer II – Power Systems & Renewable Energy

About the role

You will join the Electrification and Power Grids Centre (EPGC) at the Energy Research Institute, NTU, to support cutting‑edge R&D projects on microgrid cybersecurity, digital twins and emerging energy technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Support R&D projects through development, testing, verification and validation activities.
• Plan and coordinate test logistics, source and procure equipment.
• Develop digital twins of power system networks, control/energy management systems and DERs such as ESS, PV and EV chargers.
• Perform testing of microgrid solutions and power system networks using a real‑time simulation platform.
• Familiarise with test standards for microgrids, ESS and EV charging and apply existing test procedures.
• Set up test instrumentation and conduct hands‑on tests on equipment‑under‑test.
• Prepare project reports, meeting minutes and technical documentation.
• Collaborate with industry partners, funding agencies and external collaborators to realise testbed synergies.
• Author technical publications and present findings at the test facility.
• Lead daily operations, safety and quality assessments of the EPGC facilities.

Required profile

• Demonstrated ability to support R&D projects in power systems or renewable energy.
• Experience with test planning, logistics and equipment procurement.
• Capability to work closely with industry partners and external stakeholders.
• Strong documentation and reporting skills.

Required skills

• Digital twin development for power system networks.
• Real‑time simulation platforms for microgrid testing.
• Knowledge of microgrid, energy storage system (ESS) and electric vehicle (EV) charging test standards.
• Hands‑on test instrumentation setup and operation.
• Testing of photovoltaic (PV) inverter and EV charging solutions.
