Research Engineer II – Trust Technologies

About the role

The National Centre for Research in Digital Trust at Nanyang Technological University is seeking a Research Engineer II to advance FPGA‑based systems and hardware acceleration techniques for trust, privacy, and security applications. You will work on emerging hardware technologies that improve efficiency, fairness, safety, and privacy in digital platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct R&D on FPGA and hardware acceleration, turning algorithms into efficient hardware architectures and prototypes.
• Collaborate with centre researchers to design proof‑of‑concept FPGA systems.
• Build platforms that enable technology transfer to research partners and showcase research outcomes.
• Develop and optimise FPGA implementations for compute‑intensive workloads such as privacy‑preserving systems, cryptography, AI/ML, and secure computing.
• Produce technical documentation, presentations, and papers on FPGA systems and trust technologies.
• Engage with global partners to stay abreast of trends in reconfigurable computing and trusted hardware.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field (or Bachelor’s with at least 4 years relevant experience).
• Strong communication skills and ability to interact with interdisciplinary researchers.
• Self‑motivated, able to work independently under strict timelines.
• Capability to explain complex hardware concepts clearly to diverse stakeholders.

Required skills

• Digital design and FPGA development flow.
• Experience with FPGA toolchains such as AMD/Xilinx Vivado, Vitis, Intel Quartus.
• Knowledge of interfaces and system integration (PCIe, DDR, HBM, Ethernet, AXI).
• Proficiency in Linux/Unix environments, shell scripting, automation workflows.
• Version control using Git.
• Understanding of embedded systems and hardware‑software co‑design.
