Research Fellow - Additive Manufacturing Corrosion

About the role

The Singapore Centre for 3D Printing (SC3DP) at NTU is seeking a Research Fellow to carry out research and development in advanced additive manufacturing, focusing on the corrosion behaviour of metallic materials made by laser powder bed fusion (LPBF). The work combines experimental and computational research to link processing conditions and microstructure to corrosion performance, and to develop in-situ and post-processing strategies that improve part durability.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with other researchers, including PhD students and research staff, on corrosion-resistant additively manufactured metallic materials
• Lead the design and execution of electrochemical tests and corrosion characterisation
• Characterise microstructure, phase constitution, surface condition and manufacturing defects to establish process-structure-corrosion relationships
• Develop and optimise material-specific LPBF parameters and post-processing treatments to improve corrosion resistance
• Evaluate how reduced support structures and adaptive processing strategies affect part quality and corrosion behaviour
• Contribute to research proposals, technical reports and project deliverables

Required profile

• PhD in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field
• Strong background and in-depth knowledge of metallic materials processing and metal additive manufacturing
• Good publication record, at least two first-author papers in international journals
• Strong research track record with the ability to plan and conduct research independently and solve problems systematically
• Good teamwork, mentoring, organisational and written and spoken communication skills

Required skills

• Hands-on experience operating advanced characterisation equipment such as TEM, SEM and XRD
• Experience with LPBF process monitoring and software development is an advantage
