Research Fellow – CO2 Utilisation Technologies

About the role

The Singapore Institute of Technology is seeking a Research Fellow to support a National Research Foundation‑funded project developing integrated CO2‑to‑chemical processes. The role focuses on microbial engineering, pathway optimisation and lab‑scale fermentation to produce platform aromatics from C2 building blocks.

Key responsibilities

• Design, construct and optimise engineered microbial strains for aromatic production.
• Develop and scale fermentation strategies, integrating biotechnological steps into a continuous lab‑scale system.
• Characterise chemical and biological products using advanced analytical techniques.
• Document findings, prepare technical reports, contribute to publications and mentor junior researchers.

Required profile

• PhD in Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Synthetic Biology or related field.
• Demonstrated research experience in microbial fermentation, metabolic engineering or bioprocess development.
• Strong problem‑solving, critical‑thinking and independent work capabilities.

Required skills

• Genetic engineering and molecular biology techniques.
• Strain construction and pathway engineering.
• Data analysis and process control using Python, MATLAB or C++.
• Use of analytical instrumentation for product quantification.
