Senior Professional Officer – Environmental Sustainability (Chemical Process)

About the role

The Innovation-as-a-Service Centre for Sustainability Innovation (IaaS CSI) at SIT seeks an experienced professional to lead sustainability-focused research and projects in the food and chemicals domain. The role involves co‑creating commercially viable solutions with industry partners and advancing green technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Lead applied research and innovation projects across the food and chemicals ecosystem, focusing on carbon accounting, waste reduction, circular economy, sustainable packaging, green chemistry and hazardous substance reduction.
• Collaborate with faculty, industry partners, researchers and students to develop practical sustainability solutions.
• Support life‑cycle analysis, environmental impact assessments and resource optimisation studies.
• Engage with industry to identify project opportunities, secure funding through grants, and manage project delivery, budgets and milestones.
• Represent SIT on national committees and promote sustainability innovation through conferences and publications.

Required profile

• Degree in Chemical Engineering, Food Science, Chemistry, Environmental Science or related field; Master’s or PhD preferred.
• Minimum 15 years of relevant industry experience with a proven track record in sustainability innovation and ESG integration.
• Strong knowledge of environmental technologies, resource management and sustainability standards (e.g., ISO 14044).
• Excellent analytical, project management and communication skills.
• Experience supervising students and working in an educational environment.
