Research Fellow – Experimental Nanophotonics & Free Electron Science

About the role

The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Nanyang Technological University seeks a Research Fellow to lead experimental work at the intersection of nanophotonics and free‑electron science. The role focuses on creating compact extreme‑ultraviolet (EUV) sources for spectroscopy and nanolithography.

Key responsibilities

• Design and execute experiments that combine free‑electron sources with nanophotonic structures to generate EUV radiation.
• Characterise EUV emission from nanostructures and demonstrate performance enhancements.
• Publish findings in high‑impact journals and present results at international conferences.
• Assist the Principal Investigator with grant writing and supervise graduate and undergraduate students.
• Provide logistical support for laboratory operations, including vacuum system maintenance.

Required profile

• PhD in physics, engineering, mathematics or a related discipline.
• Strong background in photonics and experience with electron sources such as DC and RF electron guns.
• Familiarity with vacuum‑chamber design and handling.
• Prior exposure to free‑electron instrumentation (SEM, TEM) and electromagnetic simulation tools.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to work independently under tight timelines.
