Research Fellow – Industrial, Mechanical & Materials Engineering

About the role

The Hyundai‑NTU‑A*STAR Corporate Lab is seeking a Research Fellow to lead cutting‑edge projects at the intersection of AI, robotics, 3D printing and digital twins. The role combines project management, laboratory leadership and hands‑on experimental work within an automotive‑focused research environment.

Key responsibilities

• Manage research projects, defining milestones, deliverables, KPIs and overseeing industry collaborations.
• Supervise day‑to‑day lab operations, facilities and a multidisciplinary team of researchers, driving cost efficiency and process improvements.
• Conduct experimental work and contribute to research outputs such as proposals, journal papers and conference presentations.
• Prepare communication materials and act as the primary liaison with industry partners and stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with university policies and coordinate activities of the Hyundai‑NTU‑A*STAR Corporate Lab.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Industrial, Mechanical or Materials Engineering.
• Proven expertise in design, modelling and optimisation of multimodal sensors for automotive applications.
• Strong research track record with publications in top‑tier journals.
• Knowledge of engineering design, human factors, control, optimisation and FEA simulation.

Required skills

• FEM software: Comsol Multiphysics, Abaqus.
• CAD software: SolidWorks, AutoCAD.
• Programming: Visual C++, Python.
• LabVIEW.
• EEG and eye‑tracking systems.
• AI‑based sensor fusion and monitoring techniques.
