Research Fellow – Mechanical Properties of Additively Manufactured Alloys

About the role

The School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at NTU seeks a Research Fellow to advance the understanding of additively manufactured advanced structural alloys. The role focuses on microstructural engineering and the evaluation of mechanical properties under extreme temperature conditions, supporting the development of high‑performance materials for demanding applications.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct research on additive manufacturing of advanced structural alloys.
• Design and perform experiments to assess mechanical properties at high temperatures.
• Characterize microstructures and analyse microstructure‑property relationships.
• Apply data‑driven and machine‑learning methods for materials discovery and optimisation.
• Analyse results, publish in peer‑reviewed journals and assist in proposal development.
• Supervise and mentor graduate students involved in related projects.
• Collaborate with research partners and support laboratory activities.

Required profile

• PhD in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Strong background in additive manufacturing, microstructural characterisation, or mechanical testing of structural alloys.
• Experience with high‑temperature mechanical testing is desirable.
• Understanding of microstructure‑property relationships in structural alloys.
• Knowledge of fracture mechanics and experience with fracture experiments is an advantage.
• Familiarity with AI or machine‑learning approaches applied to materials research is a plus.
