Research Fellow – Optical Imaging with Single‑Photon Detector

About the role

The Centre for Disruptive Photonic Technologies at Nanyang Technological University seeks a Research Fellow to lead a project on label‑free optical imaging using single‑photon detectors. You will design, build, and validate a high‑sensitivity scanning microscope and develop robust measurement workflows.

Key responsibilities

• Design, assemble, and align a single‑photon‑enabled scanning microscope.
• Integrate detector modules, synchronization electronics, and time‑tagging workflows.
• Develop and benchmark imaging protocols for sensitivity, contrast, resolution, and acquisition speed.
• Operate and maintain advanced microscopy and spectroscopy equipment in compliance with safety standards.
• Analyze data, prepare scientific publications, and present findings at international conferences.
• Collaborate with internal and external partners on joint research projects and technology development.
• Contribute to progress reports, project meetings, and day‑to‑day laboratory operations.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Physics, Optical/Photonic Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrated research experience in confocal/scanning microscopy, optical alignment, and precision opto‑mechanics.
• Strong publication record in peer‑reviewed international journals.
• Experience with low‑photon detectors, timing/synchronization, and systematic imaging protocols is preferred.
