ntu · CleanTech One
Job description
About the role
The Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N), established in 2010, is a pan-university research institute focused on systems-level research for tropical megacities, covering the energy value chain from generation to end-use solutions. It is looking for a Research Fellow to design and develop advanced power electronics systems for flow-based energy storage, taking part in joint research innovation, technology translation, management and reporting.
Key responsibilities
- Design and develop advanced power electronics systems for flow-based energy storage.
- Develop test plans and carry out laboratory testing to verify system performance under various operating conditions.
- Prepare technical documentation, including design and test reports, control models, test results and source code.
- Support technology translation, turning research outcomes into practical engineering solutions and commercially viable products.
- Manage and lead the research team, including task planning, technical guidance, progress tracking and stakeholder coordination.
- Report research progress and outcomes to the Principal Investigator and the funding agency.
Required profile
- PhD in power electronics engineering or a related field.
- At least 5 years of relevant R&D experience in high-power, high-efficiency power electronics systems.
- Familiarity with the development process of high-power power electronics systems (>10 kW) and hands-on engineering design experience.
- Strong understanding of silicon carbide (SiC) power devices, with hands-on experience designing and debugging SiC gate driver circuits, including double-pulse testing.
- Ability to lead a team and work collaboratively in a fast-paced, cross-functional research environment.
Required skills
- Solid knowledge of energy storage systems, including flow batteries, their battery management systems (BMS) and energy management systems (EMS).
- Proficiency in power electronics simulation and design tools such as PSIM, PLECS and Altium Designer.
- Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g. CAN, Modbus) and embedded C/C++ programming for control algorithms on DSPs and FPGAs.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
