Research Fellow / Research Engineer (AI for Civil Engineering)

About the role

The Singapore Institute of Technology seeks a Research Fellow/Engineer to lead AI-driven projects in civil engineering, collaborating with industry partners and academic teams to advance construction QA/QC and material assessment.

Key responsibilities

• Manage research projects with the Principal Investigator, co‑PIs, and industry partners to meet all deliverables.
• Evaluate and improve existing QA/QC testing practices, reducing redundancy while maintaining compliance.
• Curate and integrate historical construction data into a structured database for traceability.
• Design a digital chain‑of‑custody framework for assurance records, including carbon footprint data.
• Develop, train, and validate AI models for real‑time QA/QC automation, anomaly detection, and consistency checks.
• Create a cloud‑based verification platform for digital data collection and analytics.
• Apply non‑destructive testing (NDT) methods and data‑driven approaches to assess reclaimed steel properties.
• Investigate geometric imperfections and their impact on structural performance.
• Develop data‑driven reusability assessment platforms integrating NDT data, machine learning, and RFID traceability.
• Prepare technical reports, conference papers, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Civil/Construction Engineering, Engineering Systems or equivalent.
• Strong foundation in data engineering, AI/ML development, and software systems (data pipelines, cloud services, dashboards, web applications).
• Experience handling real‑world datasets and model deployment workflows.
• Domain knowledge in building construction, civil or structural engineering and familiarity with QA/QC workflows.
• Good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams.
