Research Fellow – VR & Digital Engagement Development

About the role

The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Nanyang Technological University is seeking a Research Fellow to lead the development of virtual‑reality (VR) scenarios and digital engagement tools for a national project on sea‑level rise resilience. The role combines VR content creation, gamification, and front‑end development to support public‑facing experiments and agency hand‑over.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement VR‑based sea‑level rise scenarios for public engagement experiments (Module C).
• Build gamification modules and a digital engagement platform for a 6 × 4 factorial study.
• Provide front‑end and UX support for the Module D simulation interface using modern web technologies.
• Create workshop and training materials to enable agency hand‑over of the digital tools.
• Contribute to project reports, conference presentations, and high‑impact journal publications.

Required profile

• PhD in Computer Science, Interactive Media, Human‑Computer Interaction, or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrated experience with Unity or Unreal Engine for VR development.
• Proficiency in web development (JavaScript/React, HTML, CSS) and data‑visualisation libraries such as D3.js or Plotly.js.
• Hands‑on experience with cloud back‑ends, preferably Firebase/Firestore.
• Background in gamification design, user‑experience principles, and iterative user testing.
• Portfolio showcasing VR or interactive projects is preferred.
