Scientist 2 - Reagent Sciences

About the role

Illumina develops next-generation DNA sequencing platforms and, in Singapore, its Reagent Sciences team works with international experts to improve the stability, performance and robustness of consumable reagents. The Scientist 2 carries out scientific R&D in reagent stabilization, including reagent formulation development and lyophilization process characterization, to improve reagents used in NGS and microarray consumables.

Key responsibilities

• Design and perform experiments of moderate to advanced complexity under supervision, using a broad range of physical and chemical techniques
• Summarize and report consistent conclusions, generate recommendations for follow-up experiments and suggest alternate strategies
• Maintain detailed technical observations in laboratory notebooks and documentation systems
• Take responsibility for lab processes such as equipment ownership and contribute to successful lab operations
• Write technical reports and communicate effectively with local leadership
• Collaborate in multi-disciplinary teams and employ and explain statistical methods to drive decisions

Required profile

• B.Sc./B.Eng. in a relevant field such as biochemistry, biochemical or chemical engineering, biomaterials or equivalent
• Experience in biochemical, pharmaceutical, chemical or equivalent industries preferred
• Experience operating pilot-scale or large lab-scale lyophilization or large-scale (20 litres or above) cell culture (fermentation) is an advantage
• Understanding of protein biochemistry, engineering and structure is a plus
• Experience with Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) is not required but is a plus
