Senior Assembly Process Engineer

About the role

Excelitas Technologies seeks a Senior Assembly Process Engineer to develop and optimise ultra‑clean product assembly workflows for semiconductor and optical‑fiber applications in a cleanroom environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design and transfer manufacturing processes for series production of optical‑fiber assemblies, ensuring compliance with customer cleanliness requirements.
• Mentor the engineering team, drive continuous improvement using DOE, 8D and Lean Six Sigma, and lead design‑for‑manufacture initiatives.
• Oversee task planning, prioritise critical activities, and manage daily operations to meet technical budgets and project timelines.
• Implement engineering controls, laser safety assessments and training to achieve a zero‑incident safety culture.
• Lead customer communications during escalations, track RFQ turnaround times and ensure successful project handover.

Required profile

• Master's or Bachelor's degree in Optical, Materials, Mechanical, Precision Engineering, Physics, Chemistry or related field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a cleanroom environment focused on optical, laser or fiber product development.
• Proven team‑leadership experience and success in process‑improvement projects using DOE, 8D and Lean Six Sigma.
• Experience with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and AS9100 quality systems.

Required skills

• Optical‑fiber assembly and contamination‑control standards.
• Design for Manufacture (DFM), New Product Introduction (NPI) and process development.
• Design of Experiments (DOE), 8D problem‑solving, Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
• AutoCAD or SolidWorks.
• Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and SAP ERP.
• Laser safety risk assessment and audit procedures.
