Senior Associate Engineer - Failure Analysis

About the role

GlobalFoundries is a leading manufacturer of essential semiconductors, with manufacturing operations across the U.S., Europe and Asia. This role examines and characterizes semiconductor device failures, interprets analytical results and provides insights that support root cause identification. The Associate Engineer handles FA requests submitted to the FA group and ensures timely, accurate reporting so that corrective actions and process improvements can be taken.

Key responsibilities

• Perform hands-on failure analysis: die polishing, deprocessing and die sample preparation (coater, SELA wafer cleaving, chemical decoration)
• Handle Focused Ion Beam (FIB), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and EDX analysis tools on semiconductor devices
• Write detailed FA reports and update completed jobs in the FA database
• Ensure all FA jobs are finished within the required turnaround time
• Accept and process FA requests from the fab promptly and accurately
• Support analytical, fault isolation and failure analysis needs across the company
• Conduct root cause failure analysis and drive process changes to eliminate recurring issues
• Analyze reports and defective products to identify trends and recommend corrective actions
• Review and approve FA work performed by technicians
• Assist engineers in providing FA support for quality monitoring programs
• Train and certify technicians on FA techniques
• Maintain daily preventive maintenance, tool uptime and housekeeping of FA equipment
• Collaborate on cross-functional projects and follow EHS and safety procedures

Required profile

• Diploma in Electronics or Mechatronics Engineering
• Experience working in a lab environment
• Able to commit to a permanent night shift (12-hour shift)
• Can handle chemicals and has no physical allergy to common solvents, acids or alkaline substances
