Senior Data Scientist (Ads & Demand Optimization)

About the role

Grab is looking for a Senior Data Scientist (G4) to join its Ads and Demand Optimization team, which sits at the intersection of machine learning, economics and engineering. The team designs algorithms that ensure the right ads and promotional incentives reach the right audience, optimises ad inventory and promotional spend to maximise ROI for merchants, users and the platform, and focuses on the "brains" behind the system. The role bridges ads ranking and demand personalisation, developing algorithmic frameworks that shape user journeys, govern ads auctions and allocate promotional budgets. It reports to the Data Science Manager II and is based onsite at the Grab One North Singapore office.

Key responsibilities

• Develop data science methodologies for ad ranking and automated promo assignment.
• Deploy uplift models and causal inference frameworks to maximise promotional incrementality.
• Improve ads auction mechanics and budget allocation to balance ecosystem health and platform ROI.
• Design experimentation frameworks (A/B testing, switchback, bandits) evaluating CTR, CVR and incremental GMV.
• Partner with Product and Engineering to turn marketplace challenges into clear data science roadmaps.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• At least 4 years as a Data Scientist in ads ranking, recommendation, uplift modelling or marketplace optimization.
• Expertise in causal inference, uplift modelling, experimental design or ads auction theory.
• Foundations in statistical modelling, machine learning and mathematical optimization.
• Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and bring structure to open-ended product problems.

Required skills

• Python and SQL
• Distributed data frameworks such as Spark for large-scale datasets
