Job description
About the role
This role is part of the team that builds the engineering capabilities needed to make EMA an informed technical lead on advanced nuclear power systems. You will build internal capabilities to evaluate the engineering feasibility and safety profiles of complex energy technologies, so the organisation can benchmark global designs against international safety, security and safeguards standards.
Key responsibilities
- Build expertise in advanced thermal-hydraulic systems, core physics and material behaviour for next-generation nuclear technologies
- Conduct multi-disciplinary engineering research across civil, mechanical and electrical disciplines to verify technical claims of emerging technologies
- Support technical benchmarks and reference architectures for advanced reactors such as Light Water SMRs and High-Temperature Gas-cooled Reactors
- Study how global designs could be optimised, for example through modular construction and system co-location
- Develop hazard identification and risk modelling capabilities using methods such as Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) and Fault Tree Analysis
- Research safety cases and the alignment of deterministic and probabilistic controls, and build frameworks to assess how design changes affect safety envelopes
- Coordinate with international engineering consultants and research organisations, advocate for international standards and scan global trends in advanced nuclear technology
Required profile
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nuclear, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Systems Engineering or another relevant field
- Preferred: 8-10 years of engineering experience in high-complexity environments such as power utilities, aerospace, oil and gas or chemicals
- Familiarity with international nuclear standards (e.g. IAEA SSR-2/1) and risk assessment tools (HAZID/HAZOP, LOPA)
- Experience with international codes (ASME, EN/ISO) and deterministic, probabilistic, quantitative safety assessments
- Safety case development or process safety experience for Major Hazards Industries in Singapore
- Openness to being stationed overseas for 3 months to 2 years for training and attachments
Required skills
- Safety culture mindset, design for safety and maintainability
- Critical review of vendor technical documentation
- Technical writing for regulatory submissions
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, able to synthesise technical and policy considerations
