Senior Principal Engineer - Gas System Supervision (PSOD)

About the role

The Power System Operation Division (PSOD) oversees Singapore's power system operations from the Power System Control Centre (PSCC) to ensure a reliable electricity supply. This Senior Principal Engineer role supports the monitoring and coordination of gas transmission system operations, including maintenance, performance analysis and regulatory compliance, and investigates system disturbances to strengthen overall system resilience.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and coordinate gas transmission system scheduled and ad-hoc maintenance requests by Gas Licensees.
• Review contingency plans for restoring gas supply in the event of gas emergencies.
• Monitor and review real-time gas transmission system operations to ensure reliability and security, recommending changes where needed.
• Analyse gas transmission network and facilities performance and disturbance statistics to identify vulnerabilities and improvements.
• Investigate and report on gas transmission system disturbances or abnormal conditions.
• Review department work practices and procedures for efficiency and productivity improvements.
• Ensure Generation Licensees comply with the regulatory fuel changeover framework.
• Review Gas Agreements, Codes of Practice, Gas Network Code, Natural Gas SOP and Gas Network Code SOPs and recommend improvements.
• Study gas-electricity interdependency to ensure adequate gas network survival time for power system stability and assess the impact of gas supply disruptions on electricity generation.

Required profile

• Specialisation in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or a relevant engineering background.
• Team player with strong interpersonal, written and spoken communication and analytical skills.

Required skills

• Knowledge of power/gas system studies and analysis, including system dynamics (an advantage).
• Prior experience in power/gas system operation (an advantage).
