Senior Executive, Construction Technology and Protective Engineering Laboratory

About the role

The Senior Executive for the Construction Technology and Protective Engineering (CTPE) Laboratory will lead day‑to‑day operations of the lab within the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Working closely with faculty, researchers, students and industry partners, the role ensures the facility, equipment and safety standards support cutting‑edge research and teaching.

Key responsibilities

• Manage workshop scheduling, equipment usage and workflow to meet academic and research needs.
• Operate and supervise machining processes such as cutting, drilling, grinding, sawing and CNC routing.
• Provide technical assistance for fabrication requests, advising on design feasibility, material selection and methods.
• Enforce safety protocols, conduct training, maintain risk assessments and ensure compliance with university standards.
• Oversee maintenance, calibration, servicing and procurement of tools, consumables and assets.
• Mentor students, research staff and new hires in machining techniques and safe workshop practices.
• Support teaching activities by preparing demonstrations and assisting in laboratory sessions.
• Identify and implement digital tools and modern techniques to improve laboratory operations.
• Undertake additional duties delegated by the Reporting Officer, including procurement management and participation in school‑wide initiatives.

Required profile

• Degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum three years of experience in laboratory or workshop operations, preferably in an academic or research setting.
• Strong understanding of safety regulations and equipment maintenance.

• Computer Numerical Control (CNC) routing and programming.
• Machining techniques: cutting, drilling, grinding, sawing.
