Senior Principal R&D Hardware Design Engineer – Networking

About the role

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) is seeking a Senior Principal R&D Hardware Design Engineer to lead the architecture of advanced networking systems in its high-speed digital circuit design organization. The role defines system and hardware architectures, shapes multi-generation technology roadmaps and sets engineering standards across compute, switching silicon, memory, high-speed interfaces, power, timing, management and board design. It is an onsite position based at an HPE office.

Key responsibilities

• Own end-to-end hardware architecture for complex, high-performance networking platforms and reusable design frameworks across product generations.
• Translate product requirements, customer use cases and technology trends into scalable system and board-level architectures.
• Lead architectural partitioning and trade-offs across switching silicon, processors, memory, interfaces, power delivery, clocking, management, thermal, mechanical, firmware, manufacturability, reliability and cost.
• Develop architecture specifications, interface definitions, design principles and decision records.
• Drive early feasibility, modeling, risk assessment and technology evaluation.
• Chair architecture and design reviews, resolve cross-functional technical issues and ensure design integrity through qualification and production.
• Establish platform-level design standards, reference architectures and technology adoption strategies.
• Mentor principal and senior engineers and develop future architects.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronic Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• 15+ years of experience designing and architecting complex electronic systems and hardware platforms, with significant technical leadership.
• Proven ability to define end-to-end hardware architecture and make system-level trade-offs.
• Recognized technical authority who influences architecture and engineering direction across multiple teams and product families.
• Preferred: ability to work independently at Senior Principal level, strong cross-organizational influence, and exceptional communication skills.

Required skills

• Deep expertise in high-speed digital systems: signal integrity, power integrity, clocking, power delivery, system performance, reliability and design margin.
• Experience with architecture definition, board-level design, design reviews, prototyping, measurement, validation, characterization and root-cause analysis.
• Advanced board-level design with Cadence OrCAD and Allegro, and strong understanding of PCB technology, layout constraints and manufacturing considerations.
