Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Payments Core)

About the role

Grab is hiring a Senior Software Engineer, Backend for its FundsCore Recon Platform team, which builds a reliable payments platform that reconciles transactions accurately across many financial partners. The role sits within the Payments domain and reports to an Engineering Manager II, working onsite at the Grab One-North office in Singapore.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable backend systems and data pipelines for the Payments Core platform, meeting functional and non-functional requirements.
• Contribute to operational excellence and mentor junior engineers and interns.
• Take part in code reviews, keep technical documentation up to date and share knowledge.
• Troubleshoot and debug complex issues, and implement long-term sustainable fixes.
• Help shape architectural decisions and project technical direction.
• Ensure system reliability and availability through observability practices and take part in mandatory on-call rotations.
• Provide DevOps support to keep systems healthy and performant.
• Stay current with industry trends and use Generative AI tools to boost productivity.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
• 4+ years of software development experience with strong fundamentals in algorithms and data structures.
• Ability to handle edge cases and unhappy paths, and to learn new technologies and domains quickly.
• Experience applying Generative AI to improve productivity.
• Experience in the Payments domain (e.g. settlement and reconciliation) is preferred.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Golang (preferred), Java or equivalent, with clean, testable code following SOLID principles.
• Clean architecture, data-driven design and large-scale data processing.
• Distributed systems using DBMS, caching, NoSQL databases and RESTful/gRPC APIs.
• Microservices, cloud platforms (e.g. Amazon Web Services) and DevOps.
• Observability, SLAs, security, data governance and regulatory compliance.
