Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Payments)

About the role

Grab is looking for an experienced Senior Backend Software Engineer to join its Payments FundsCore team in Singapore. You will build scalable distributed systems that form Grab's financial backbone, including the Payment Platform, Driver Payouts, Fee Platform and the Dax ledger, taking ownership of services that process millions of transactions daily. You will report to the Engineering Manager II and work on-site at the Singapore office.

Key responsibilities

• Develop scalable backend systems that meet business and non-functional requirements, including reliability, security and performance.
• Write clean, efficient, testable and maintainable code, and conduct code reviews and maintain technical documentation.
• Build distributed systems that prioritise transaction correctness and consistency, using patterns such as idempotency, event sourcing and the Saga pattern.
• Diagnose complex production issues, create fixes and strengthen reliability through observability, automation and operational improvements.
• Contribute to architectural decisions, support deployment and operational processes, and take part in the on-call rotation.
• Mentor junior engineers and interns, and stay current with technologies and Generative AI tools.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least five years of relevant software development experience.
• Experience building large-scale distributed systems and designing systems that meet observability, availability, security, data governance, regulatory and compliance requirements.
• Practical experience with microservices, cloud platforms such as AWS and DevOps practices.
• Ability to write thoroughly tested code using SOLID principles and to produce technical design documents and runbooks.
• Preferred: knowledge of or experience in FinTech and payment systems.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Go (preferred), Java or another major programming language.
• Relational and NoSQL databases, caching technologies, RESTful and gRPC services.
• Algorithms and data structures, clean architecture and data-intensive application design.
