Senior/Lead Economist, Macroeconomic and Financial Research (Contract)

About the role

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) is hiring a Senior/Lead Economist for its Labour Market and Research Division within the Economic Policy Group. You will carry out in-depth analysis of macroeconomic and financial issues relevant to Singapore, working in teams that conduct policy-oriented research and monitor global and domestic economic developments.

Key responsibilities

• Apply sound conceptual frameworks, econometric methods and AI-enabled analytical tools to policy analysis, using sound professional judgement.
• Take part in policy-oriented research and in the surveillance and assessment of global and domestic economic trends.
• Provide research-based policy advice to MAS management and brief policymakers on your research.
• Engage with visiting academics.

Required profile

• PhD or (Research) Master's degree in Economics or a closely related field.
• Background in theoretical and empirical macroeconomics and a good understanding of Singapore's economic policy context.
• Substantial experience in quantitative economic or financial analysis and a proven track record of independent research.
• Strong writing and presentation skills in English and good interpersonal skills.
• Strong interest in contributing to public policymaking in Singapore.
• Able to manage multiple priorities and respond quickly to change in a fast-paced environment.

Required skills

• Programming in one or more of EViews, MATLAB, Stata, Python or R.
