Shipping Officer

About the role

The Shipping Officer will act as the central liaison between shipping, scheduling, marketing teams and external partners such as vessel owners, brokers and agents. The role ensures smooth voyage execution while protecting Fortescue’s interests and aligning with company values.

Key responsibilities

• Manage all operational aspects of vessels, including voyage instructions, agency appointments, ETA monitoring, IMOS updates, freight payments, LOI and post‑fixture matters.
• Coordinate with the Marketing Department on vessel updates, requirements and dispute resolution.
• Monitor vessel ETAs to support load‑port scheduling and maximize berth occupancy at Port Hedland.
• Maintain data accuracy in IMOS, SEDNA and LOI systems.
• Settle laytime calculations with marketing and finalize freight settlements with owners.
• Provide feedback on external vendor services and ensure accurate P&L reporting for operated vessels.
• Work in line with Fortescue Values and collaborate with internal and external counterparties.

Required profile

• University graduate.
• 2‑3 years of experience as a vessel operator.
• Strong understanding of vessel operations, freight and laytime calculations, and charterparty terms.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize under pressure and work effectively in a team.
• Good time‑management and communication skills.

Required skills

• IMOS (experience preferred).
• SEDNA (experience preferred).
