Social Work Assistant

About the role

The Social Work Assistant is the key contact officer for the Medical Social Service, handling telephone and email enquiries and supporting the Medical Social Worker. The role is based in the polyclinic setting and may involve travel between polyclinics and home visits.

Key responsibilities

• Handle all telephone and email enquiries for the Medical Social Service
• Provide administrative support to the Medical Social Worker on referrals and accompany them on field visits
• Assist in interpretation when required
• Gather information and carry out preliminary investigations into patients' needs to facilitate intervention
• Process applications and ensure submissions are compliant
• Maintain work statistics and compile data for submission to the Ministry of Health
• Handle external correspondence such as MP letters and CDC letters
• Take part in projects that improve department work processes and perform other duties assigned by the supervisor

Required profile

• Diploma, Higher Nitec or GCE 'A' or 'O' level
• Certificate in community and social services or equivalent preferred
• At least 1 year of experience in community health
• Good interpersonal and communication skills; fluent in local dialects is an advantage
• Empathetic, non-judgmental, flexible, mature, eager to help and independent
• Willingness to travel between polyclinics and possible home visits

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel
