Software Development Engineer II - Data Platform

About the role

Atlassian is looking for a Software Development Engineer II to help build and operate its foundational data platform, which is growing on high-scale distributed data systems. The platform powers the data behind in-product analytics in Jira, JSM and Confluence, and dedicated solutions such as Atlassian Analytics, the Teamwork Graph and AI-native capabilities like Rovo. The engineer works alongside senior engineers with real ownership of the components built.

Key responsibilities

• Build and operate components of the data platform across streaming ingestion (Flink) and MPP query/serving (StarRocks)
• Write high-quality code from design through delivery, owning features and bug fixes
• Take part in running high-scale data platform systems in production: on-call, debugging and basic performance and data-quality tuning
• Take part in code reviews and write clear documentation
• Work with the team and partner teams to deliver reliable, performant data infrastructure
• Keep learning distributed data systems

Required profile

• 3+ years in software engineering with solid distributed-systems and data fundamentals
• Experience with data platform systems: streaming/ingestion (Flink or Spark) and/or MPP query engines (StarRocks, Trino, Apache Pinot, Apache Doris)
• Some experience or strong aptitude for operating high-scale data platforms, including on-call and production debugging

Required skills

• Strong coding in Java, Scala or Python
• Familiarity with cloud data infrastructure (GCP, AWS)
• Open-source contributions to relevant projects are a strong plus
