Software Engineer, Desktop

About the role

ActAI builds proactive, AI-native applications for everyday communication, coordination and collaboration, starting with an agent-first mobile app. As Software Engineer, Desktop you will own how the system behaves on desktop environments, focusing on reliability, performance and real-time behaviour in production desktop applications.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain cross-platform desktop applications using Electron.
• Design responsive, scalable UIs for real-time collaboration.
• Implement desktop-specific features such as file system access, native notifications, auto-updates and deep linking.
• Integrate AI-powered features (chat, agents, AI assistance) via backend APIs.
• Optimize startup time, memory usage and runtime performance, and profile and reduce Electron overhead.
• Manage large local state and message history efficiently.
• Ensure smooth real-time updates (messages, typing indicators, presence).
• Maintain stability across macOS and Windows.

Required profile

• Proven software engineering experience.
• Hands-on experience building production Electron applications.
• Solid understanding of the desktop application lifecycle.
• Strong debugging and performance profiling skills.
• Familiarity with native OS behaviours on macOS or Windows.

Required skills

• JavaScript and TypeScript
• React or similar UI frameworks
• IPC communication
• Local storage (SQLite, IndexedDB, filesystem)
• WebSockets or other real-time transports
• Electron, Node.js, SQL and NoSQL

The interview process involves 3 to 4 virtual or onsite interviews, with a prompt decision once a fit is found.
