Software Engineer (Java, Node.js & Kubernetes)

About the role

This is a hands-on individual contributor role within the Platform Team, focused on backend application development, system integration and the operation and maintenance of shared platform components. The work centres on Java and Node.js applications running on Kubernetes.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain backend applications, REST APIs and microservices using Java (Spring Boot) and Node.js
• Write clean, secure, well-tested code and take part in code reviews and solution design
• Containerise applications with Docker, Podman and Containerd, and maintain Kubernetes manifests and Helm charts
• Deploy, monitor and troubleshoot applications on Kubernetes, including pods, services, ingress, DNS, networking, certificates and storage
• Support Kubernetes cluster bootstrapping, upgrades and patching
• Support CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, Ansible/AWX), incident investigation and vulnerability remediation
• Maintain technical documentation, deployment procedures and operational runbooks

Required profile

• 3 to 6 years of relevant experience
• Background in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT or a related field
• Solid understanding of Docker/Podman and Kubernetes concepts and resources (Deployments, StatefulSets, Services, Ingress, ConfigMaps, Secrets, PVs)
• Basic Linux administration, shell scripting and networking fundamentals (HTTP/S, DNS, TCP/IP, TLS)
• Proficiency with Git, branching workflows and code reviews
• Practical Kubernetes exposure

Required skills

• Strong Java (Spring Boot) and Node.js/TypeScript development
• REST APIs, microservices, relational databases and SQL
• Preferred: Helm, GitLab CI/CD, Ansible/AWX, Prometheus/Grafana, MQTT/RabbitMQ, on-premises or air-gapped Kubernetes, Kubernetes security and secrets management, production incident support
