Staff Data Scientist, SMAI

About the role

Micron Technology, Inc. is hiring a Staff Data Scientist for its SMAI team in Fab 10A, Singapore. The role focuses on turning big data and AI into actionable insights that improve client services, product performance and manufacturing operations, and to drive optimization and simulation solutions across planning and operations.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and program methods, processes and systems to consolidate and analyse unstructured big data sources and turn them into actionable insights for clients and product improvement.
• Work with product and service teams to define questions and issues for data analysis and experiments.
• Develop and code software, algorithms, simulation and optimization models, and automated processes to cleanse, integrate and evaluate large datasets.
• Identify insights from large data and metadata sources and interpret and communicate findings to product, service and business managers.
• Explore new ideas and technologies to enable breakthrough solutions, and work with management and global manufacturing sites to find optimization opportunities.
• Drive global collaboration and benchmarking of optimization and simulation solutions in planning and operations.
• Leverage AI, LLMs and AI-assisted development tools to speed analytics, software development and simulation, and apply Generative AI and Agentic AI to automate engineering work and improve decision support.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Industrial Engineering, Operations Research or equivalent, with strong programming and modeling capabilities.
• 5+ years of strong software engineering experience with Python and SQL; Java and other languages preferred.
• Experience with Digital Twin solutions for semiconductor manufacturing, supply chain, capacity planning, scheduling or operations optimization is highly preferred.
• Experience in semiconductor or manufacturing operations simulation modeling using discrete event simulation.
• Experience in optimization modeling and Operations Research, including Mixed Integer Programming (MIP), Linear Programming (LP) and Constraint Programming.
• Ability to learn and apply new technologies quickly, and to use AI-assisted tools such as Microsoft Copilot, GenieLLM and coding assistants.

Required skills

• Python and SQL (required); Java preferred.
• Cloud solutions, API, GIT and ETL knowledge and experience.
• Familiarity with Generative AI, LLMs, prompt engineering, AI agents and AI-enabled automation.
• Strong problem-solving, structured and logical approach, and clear communication.
