Staff/Principal AI Engineer, SMAI

About the role

Micron is transforming toward autonomous operations through AI, advanced analytics, digital twins, robotics and intelligent automation. As a Staff/Principal Full-Stack AI Engineer, you will lead the strategy, architecture and delivery of AI products that power smarter manufacturing across Micron's fabs and assembly/test sites. You will own AI solutions end-to-end, from data engineering and machine learning to full-stack applications, digital twin platforms, robotics integration and edge-to-cloud deployment.

Key responsibilities

• Design, architect and build end-to-end AI products: data pipelines, feature engineering, model training and inference, APIs, web apps and observability.
• Develop front-end apps with React, Angular or Streamlit backed by Python/FastAPI services.
• Integrate robotics platforms, AMRs, tool automation and control systems with smart manufacturing applications.
• Build digital twin environments (fab layouts, AMR fleets, tool stations) with NVIDIA Omniverse, Gazebo, Unity Robotics Hub or similar.
• Integrate LLMs and agentic AI frameworks, and AI-assisted robotics orchestration and 3D-aware features.
• Containerize services with Docker and deploy them on Kubernetes, OpenShift and cloud platforms; manage GPU-accelerated inference and real-time simulation.
• Lead CI/CD, automated releases, monitoring, model evaluation, drift detection and AI lifecycle management.
• Apply Responsible AI practices, including input validation, prompt-injection defense, PII/IP protection and model governance.
• Perform code reviews, mentor developers, write technical documentation and drive software engineering best practices.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science or a related field; equivalent industry experience accepted.
• 8+ years building and shipping production web, software, ML or AI applications end-to-end.
• Track record in complex cross-functional environments spanning software, data science, robotics, manufacturing, automation and infrastructure teams.
• Experience designing and deploying scalable AI applications, APIs and data-driven solutions in production.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication and stakeholder management skills; ability to influence technical decisions.

Required skills

• Expert Python and modern JavaScript/TypeScript, with scalable software architecture design.
• Strong SQL and data ingestion and feature engineering pipelines.
• Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift, CI/CD, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP).
• Machine learning, deep learning, statistical modeling and GenAI (prompt engineering, RAG, LLM integration, agentic AI, model evaluation, Responsible AI).
• Preferred: semiconductor manufacturing, digital twin platforms (NVIDIA Omniverse, Gazebo, Unity Robotics Hub), ROS/ROS 2, Isaac Sim/Lab, SCADA/FMCS/BMS integration, and GPU-accelerated workloads.
