System Specialist – Mainframe Backup

About the role

We are looking for a System Specialist to manage and support our mainframe backup environment in Singapore. The role involves ensuring data protection, system stability and performance for critical z/OS workloads.

Key responsibilities

• Administer and maintain CA-1 backup system, z/OS operating system, JCL and associated tape management and automated tape libraries.
• Perform security patching, hardening and upgrades of backup software and hardware.
• Install, configure and tune backup solutions including Data Domain, ECS and Hitachi CGX.
• Monitor system performance, conduct capacity planning and ensure sufficient backup storage.
• Collaborate with hardware and software vendors to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
• Review system logs and participate in technical exercises and disaster‑recovery tests.

Required profile

• 3‑5 years of experience with mainframe backup systems, preferably CA‑1.
• Strong knowledge of z/OS and JCL.
• Understanding of mainframe storage concepts such as DASD, tape and virtual storage.
• Experience with tape management systems and automated tape libraries.
• Ability to work beyond regular business hours, including weekends when required.
• Excellent written and spoken English and good interpersonal skills.
