Technology Development Engineer Intern (Silicon Photonics)

About the role

GlobalFoundries is looking for an intern in its Silicon Photonics Technology Development (TD) team, running from January to June 2027. The internship is part of the company's entry-level talent pipeline, offering one-on-one mentorship, growth-focused work assignments, professional development and networking with executives. It is a 16-24 week credit-bearing internship.

Key responsibilities

• Work with the Silicon Photonics TD engineer to prepare documents for process flow setup and summarize inline (thickness, CD etc.) and electrical and optical test data, and perform analysis.
• Fabricate and integrate Silicon Photonics process development following process documentation and operating instructions.
• Collaborate with project team members so that devices meet specifications and their performance is verified.
• Document inline, electrical and optical test and performance data and analyse it.
• Perform other duties as assigned, depending on project progress and company goals.
• Carry out all activities safely and responsibly, supporting environmental, health, safety and security requirements.

Required profile

• Actively pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (optical/electrical/semiconductor) or a related field through an accredited programme.
• In good academic standing.
• Ability to work at least 40 hours per week during the internship.
• Available for a 16-24 week credit-bearing internship starting January 2027.
• Must state the internship period clearly in the CV, resume or cover letter.

Preferred qualifications

• Prior related internship or co-op experience.
• Demonstrated prior leadership experience in workplace, school projects or competitions.
• Project management skills, including navigating ambiguity.
• Strong interest in using AI tools and emerging technologies to improve productivity and decision-making.
• Strong self-motivation and interest in silicon photonics technology.
