Visiting Professor in Game Design and Game Studies / Ludology

About the role

The School of Art, Design and Media (ADM) at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, invites applications for a one-year Visiting Associate Professor position in Video Game Design and/or Game Studies and Ludology. The role is open to eminent overseas academics whose presence will strengthen the faculty's academic standing and creative output. It is teaching-focused, with the main responsibility being teaching and academic mentorship.

Key responsibilities

• Teach and mentor students in video game design and game studies
• Guide student-led projects from concept to completion across video game development, game mechanics design and interactive media
• Support ADM's position as a leader in digital media and video game education in the region, bridging industry practice and academic innovation

Required profile

• Eminent overseas academic, such as an international prize recipient or distinguished scholar
• A terminal MFA (or equivalent) or PhD in a relevant field
• Established record of tertiary-level teaching experience and curricular engagement
• National or international recognition by academia or industry, with a track record of leadership in game design and gaming theory
• Willingness to engage with the cultural, ethical and philosophical dimensions of gaming, and to connect with digital humanities, ludic studies or social gaming platforms

Required skills

• Expertise in video game design, including game mechanics, level design, interactive narrative, player experience (UX) and emerging creative technologies
• Recognized practice in video games or related fields, with a portfolio showing innovation, storytelling and design across real-time engines, AR/VR or generative AI in game systems
• Scholarly output in game studies, gaming theory or creative computing
