About the role

The Asia Creative Writing Programme, a collaboration between the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and the National Arts Council of Singapore, is looking for outstanding established writers to act as programme leaders. The aim is to give promising writers in Singapore a strong foundation in creative writing, support existing literary talent with sustained development, and promote intercultural understanding among writers in Singapore's four official languages (Chinese, English, Malay, Tamil). Applicants indicate whether they want a partial or full term of a single semester.

Key responsibilities

• Teach lightly and mark in an undergraduate course at NTU for one semester (three to four months).
• Run a series of masterclasses or workshops (15 to 20 hours).
• Provide individual writing consultations or mentorships, up to ten one-hour sessions.
• Take part in public engagement events such as readings, panel discussions or lectures.

Required profile

• A publication or production history showing excellence, with a reputation as an expert or master in the practice.
• Experience as a creative writing practitioner or literary translator in at least one of Singapore's four official languages.
• A strong track record in teaching creative writing, literary translation, or facilitating writer development programmes.
• Writers may work in poetry, fiction, playwriting, screenwriting, creative non-fiction, multimedia writing or any other literary form; literary translators are also invited to apply.

Only shortlisted candidates will be notified. Applications are made online by submitting a cover letter stating the availability of the teaching period and a CV including publications and vocational history.
