Volunteer Medical Doctor – South Africa

About the role

The Tshemba Foundation is seeking qualified physicians to volunteer in rural hospitals and clinics in South Africa’s north‑eastern provinces. Volunteers will provide essential medical care, support local staff, and help develop sustainable health interventions.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver direct or indirect patient care across multiple hospital departments and surrounding clinics.
• Provide postgraduate support, training, and mentorship to local medical personnel.
• Assist with administrative, management, and quality‑improvement projects.
• Collaborate with local teams to design health protocols and interventions.

Required profile

• Current, good‑standing medical licence from your regulatory body.
• Registration with ECFMG and the Health Professionals Council of South Africa (HPCSA) – assistance provided.
• Willingness to commit a minimum of 8 weeks (flexible based on specialty).
• Interest in working in a resource‑limited, rural setting.
