Associate Medical Laboratory Technologist

About the role

The Associate Medical Laboratory Technologist provides diagnostic support and ensures timely, accurate laboratory services for internal and external customers. The role contributes to smooth laboratory workflow through specimen management, basic testing, customer service, and strict adherence to quality and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Receive and triage specimens via the Pneumatic Tube System (PTS) and over‑the‑counter submissions, rejecting those that do not meet acceptance criteria.
• Operate the Laboratory Information System (LIS) for specimen receipt, result entry, order entry and enquiries.
• Sort, organise and distribute specimens to appropriate sections, and perform basic specimen processing and preparation.
• Manage specimen movement for in‑house and referral testing, ensuring proper packaging and transport.
• Conduct basic rapid testing procedures following approved protocols and alert senior staff of critical results.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance of laboratory equipment and report malfunctions.
• Monitor inventory levels of reagents, test kits and consumables and notify relevant personnel when replenishment is needed.
• Provide customer service at the reception counter, respond to enquiries and escalate complex issues.
• Work shift duties, including weekends, public holidays and after‑office hours as required.

Required profile

• Willingness to work shift patterns, including weekends and public holidays.
• Commitment to comply with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), CAP accreditation and Singapore regulatory standards.
• Ability to follow laboratory safety procedures and uphold departmental etiquette and core values.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Laboratory Information System (LIS).
• Familiarity with Pneumatic Tube System (PTS) for specimen receipt.
• Basic rapid testing techniques.
• Specimen handling, processing and preparation.
• Preventive maintenance of laboratory equipment.
