Application Scientist – AI Materials Science

About the role

Due to rapid growth, CuspAI is looking for an experienced Application Scientist to develop and apply its AI‑driven materials discovery platform with external partners. You will act as the primary liaison between customers’ experimental teams and CuspAI’s internal AI and data engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert guidance, training and technical support to external partners on platform usage and experimental design.
• Translate platform recommendations into executable lab plans and act as the “eyes and ears” in partner laboratories, delivering regular technical reports.
• Own end‑to‑end delivery of partner projects, collaborating with sales, TPMs and engineering teams.
• Gather feedback on product performance and work with engineering to drive platform improvements.

Required profile

• Extensive hands‑on experimental lab experience in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or Experimental Chemistry.
• Demonstrated exposure to AI/ML, either building models or applying them in a scientific context.
• Strong automation mindset with experience optimizing laboratory workflows.
• Excellent communication skills for both scientific and technical audiences.

Required skills

• Python scripting for data extraction, automation and API integration.
• Laboratory automation and high‑throughput experiment design.
• Experience with AI/ML model development or usage.
• Familiarity with robotics or commercial lab automation systems (bonus).
