Assistant Director, Policy & Strategy Development (2-Year Contract)

About the role

The Policy and Strategy Development Division sits within the Policy, Research and Surveillance Group of the Health Promotion Board. Its mission is to formulate public health policies and strategies, moving beyond promotion to use regulatory and policy levers to change health behaviours. It oversees the sodium reduction strategy, including the Nutri-Grade extension, upstream industry work supporting policy, and emerging issues such as tobacco. The successful candidate will drive evidence-based national policies, engage senior government and business stakeholders and work with industry and academic experts.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and track key milestones, hold meetings and manage internal stakeholders
• Analyse public health findings and market data from a wide range of sources and develop evidence-based policies and strategies
• Consult with government agencies, companies and experts to address stakeholder concerns and ensure sustainable policy implementation
• Work with regulatory agencies and industry to operationalise solutions and enforce measures
• Monitor and evaluate policies and strategies to assess impact and review approaches
• Foster local and international strategic alliances to support policy advocacy and lead conversations on emerging public health issues

Required profile

• Qualifications in health-related sciences or another relevant discipline
• At least 7 years of experience in developmental and planning roles, with project management skills; public policy experience is helpful
• Ability to work in a highly matrixed, fluid and fast-paced environment
