Assistant Engineer / Senior Assistant Engineer (Operations), Water Treatment

About the role

Choa Chu Kang Waterworks is hiring an Assistant Engineer or Senior Assistant Engineer (Operations) to support the day-to-day running of its water treatment plant. The role covers plant operations, water quality monitoring, contractor coordination and performance reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Support shift operators in the daily operation of water treatment plants, assist in site inspections and help ensure compliance with SOPs, WSH regulations and Permit-to-Work systems.
• Review water sampling and laboratory test results, monitor plant performance data and keep water quality consistent with WHO, USEPA and EPH guidelines.
• Analyse operational data and water quality trends to spot anomalies and improvements, and prepare regular performance reports and KPI summaries for management.
• Administer operations-related contracts, coordinate contractor works on-site and manage documentation including payment processing and procurement records.
• Collaborate with maintenance, engineering and operations teams, as well as regulators and vendors.
• Contribute to process improvement and the review of SOPs and work instructions, and support follow-up after operational incidents.

Required profile

• Diploma in Engineering (Chemical, Environmental, Mechanical, Electrical or related discipline).
• Experience in water treatment, utilities or process plant operations is an advantage; candidates with more relevant years of experience may be considered for the Senior Assistant Engineer position.
• Experience in contract administration or contractor coordination is an advantage.
• Good team player, safety-conscious with working knowledge of WSH regulations, and able to manage multiple priorities independently.

Required skills

• Technical knowledge of water treatment processes or related engineering disciplines.
• Strong analytical, reporting and administrative skills.
• Good communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Tech-savvy, with an interest in digitalisation, process automation or data-driven operations.
• Familiarity with SCADA systems or data analysis tools is an advantage.
