Job description

About the role

This Assistant Manager joins SLA's Business Planning Department, which turns State land and properties into meaningful spaces that serve communities. You will drive placemaking initiatives across SLA's portfolio of State properties, working from concept development and stakeholder engagement through to programme execution and evaluation, in partnership with state property tenants, government agencies, community groups and private partners.

Key responsibilities

  • Formulate policies and regulations to achieve place-making and place-management objectives.
  • Identify programming gaps and opportunities, and develop and run placemaking initiatives and programmes for selected State properties and precincts.
  • Partner with public agencies, tenants and industry players to co-create placemaking ideas through arts, culture, heritage, wellness, markets, workshops, pop-ups and community programmes.
  • Research local and international placemaking trends and build a network of creative and community partners.
  • Manage placemaking projects and activations from concept to implementation and post-event evaluation, providing on-ground support during events, including outside normal hours, and coordinating schedules, budgets and service providers.
  • Monitor tenant placemaking deliverables for compliance and evaluate outcomes using indicators such as footfall, participation, engagement, feedback and repeat visitation.
  • Maintain an overview of programmes across the portfolio and prepare management reports and post-activation evaluations with recommendations for improvement.

Required profile

  • Degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Social Sciences, Arts Management, Real Estate or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in placemaking or event organisation.
  • Interest in placemaking and creative thinking about how spaces can be activated and experienced.
  • Ability to manage multi-stakeholder projects with competing priorities.
  • Collaborative, ground-up approach across public, private and community sectors.

Required skills

  • Project and budget management.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to work independently and across teams.
