Clinical Laboratory Technician - Genomics
illumina · Singapore
Job description
About the role
Illumina Laboratory Services (ILS) is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Technician for its Singapore-based clinical genomics laboratory. This is a hands-on, laboratory-based role supporting the delivery of high-quality genomic testing to patients across the region. The technician performs laboratory techniques in compliance with ISO 15189 quality standards, including DNA extraction, DNA quantification, library preparation and next-generation sequencing on the NovaSeq X Plus platform, using both automated workflows (e.g. Hamilton STAR systems) and manual bench-top assays.
The position is intermediate level: it suits someone with established laboratory experience who can independently perform assigned workflows after training and competency assessment. The role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
Key responsibilities
- Independently perform routine laboratory testing within quality standards and established turnaround times.
- Handle, process and store clinical samples according to approved SOPs, with accurate labeling and traceability.
- Record laboratory activities, results and observations in laboratory records, logs and electronic systems, and escalate deviations, errors or nonconformities.
- Monitor consumables and reagents, keeping adequate stock levels and re-ordering as needed.
- Operate assigned instruments, carry out routine checks and maintenance, and escalate complex issues.
- Maintain a clean, organized and compliant laboratory environment and follow H&S requirements, risk assessments and biosafety procedures.
- Follow Work Instructions, SOPs and Quality Management System requirements, escalating issues outside established procedures.
- Take part in training, competency assessments and audits, suggest improvements and support colleagues' training.
- Work collaboratively with limited day-to-day supervision and keep patient and data confidential.
Required profile
- Molecular biology laboratory experience required.
- Relevant practical experience in a molecular biology, clinical, diagnostic or similarly regulated laboratory, with accuracy and limited supervision.
- Ability to recognize routine process or equipment issues and escalate them effectively.
- Strong attention to detail, personal accountability and organization to meet quality and turnaround-time expectations.
Required skills
- Knowledge of molecular biology techniques and next-generation sequencing principles.
- Ability to apply this knowledge in a regulated laboratory environment.
