Firmware Test Engineer (SSD)

About the role

Micron is hiring an Engineer, Firmware Test (SSD) to support SSD firmware verification and validation. The role covers test development, regression analysis and defect investigation, contributing to firmware quality through test methods, failure analysis, code reviews and collaboration with firmware engineers. It works under guidance with increasing independence.

Key responsibilities

• Develop comprehensive firmware verification plans for SSD firmware features.
• Execute white-box, grey-box and system-level testing to verify and validate firmware functionality.
• Analyze regression failures and perform structured root-cause analysis for firmware issues.
• Take part in code reviews and give feedback that improves firmware quality and test coverage.
• Work with firmware developers to improve code quality and product reliability.
• Share technical challenges, solutions and mitigation plans with cross-functional stakeholders.
• Maintain documentation of test activities, findings and validation results.
• Help improve firmware validation methodologies and test coverage, and share AI-enabled improvements.

Required profile

• B.Sc. or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science, or equivalent.
• 2-3 years of experience in test development and validation; internship or academic project experience counts.
• Structured problem-solving, clear communication, teamwork and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Required skills

• Software testing concepts: white-box, grey-box, black-box, boundary and regression testing.
• Python programming, scripting, debugging and test framework development.
• Firmware verification, validation and regression testing; Git workflow and branch management.
• Root-cause analysis and software defect investigation.
• Basic understanding of storage protocols and technologies.
• Preferred: knowledge of PCIe, NVMe, NVMe-MI and OCP specifications, and exposure to SSD products or firmware validation environments.
