About the role

A seasoned legal professional is sought to lead the legal function and safeguard a bank's regional interests. The role covers complex credit facilities, security documentation and commercial agreements, and advises on banking regulations, corporate governance and data protection.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, negotiate and structure complex credit facilities, security documentation and commercial agreements.
• Act as principal advisor on statutory requirements, banking regulations, corporate governance and data protection mandates.
• Oversee corporate dispute resolution, arbitration and litigation, and manage external legal counsel relationships.
• Build internal governance frameworks, credit risk controls and operational compliance policies to maintain high audit standards.
• Advise internal governance committees and provide cross-border legal support across regional operating entities.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in law with admission to a professional legal bar or relevant statutory association.
• Substantial post-qualification experience leading legal affairs in banking, financial services or regulated institutions.
• Deep knowledge of local banking legislation, central bank guidelines, lending structures and collateral security.
• Proven record in corporate dispute management, commercial contract negotiation and stakeholder engagement.
• Strategic acumen in institutional risk management and regional governance advisory.
