Ink Chemist

About the role

HP is hiring an Ink Chemist in Singapore to support its Ink Plant in Tuas, which manufactures inks used in HP Large Format Production platforms. The role sits within a team of chemists and product, process, equipment and writing system engineers focused on product quality and availability, and qualification of raw materials, process and formulation changes and new products.

Key responsibilities

• Build knowledge of ink chemistry from raw materials to finished product and contribute ongoing engineering work to the Ink Plant.
• Collaborate with product and process engineers on ink characterization, margins studies, product FMEA and process HAZOP.
• Develop models and analytical procedures to understand ink performance and its interaction with printheads, supplies and media.
• Define and run chemical and process analysis and test plans to evaluate formulations and resolve manufacturing issues.
• Work with engineers on root cause analysis of quality issues and on raw material qualification and issue investigations.
• Take part in the ink chemist community and internal and outsourced development partners to build reliable, cost-effective, high-quality solutions.
• Partner with the San Diego team, so short trips to the US may be required.

Required profile

• Undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Materials Engineering or a related field.
• At least 3 years of experience in a high-technology manufacturing or R&D environment.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical skills and growth mindset.
• Ability to communicate process architectures, formulations and design proposals and negotiate with management.
• Strong teamwork and ability to collaborate across geographies, levels and functions.

Required skills

• Understanding of chemistry concepts, practices and laboratory procedures.
• Experience designing chemical formulations and processes, and associated production tooling.
