Legal Counsel – Hedge Fund (Singapore)

About the role

Our client is a fast‑growing, Asia‑focused multi‑strategy hedge fund headquartered in Singapore. Reporting to the Head of Legal & Compliance, the Legal Counsel will serve as the primary in‑house lawyer, providing comprehensive legal support across the firm.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the main in‑house legal adviser across the firm, handling a broad generalist workload independently from start to finish.
• Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements with service providers, counterparties and vendors.
• Advise on fund matters, including documentation, structuring and investor‑related queries.
• Lead employment matters for the investment team, covering contracts, compensation, restrictive covenants, hiring and exits.
• Support corporate work such as entity governance, corporate housekeeping and M&A or strategic transactions.
• Instruct and manage external counsel across jurisdictions, ensuring timely and cost‑effective delivery.
• Monitor legal and regulatory developments affecting the business and advise stakeholders on practical implications.

Required profile

• Approximately 10 years of post‑qualification experience, qualified in a common‑law jurisdiction.
• In‑house experience at a hedge fund or multi‑asset investment manager is strongly preferred.
• Broad generalist background covering corporate commercial, funds, employment and M&A work.
• Proven ability to work independently and make sound legal decisions without extensive team support.
• Resilient, self‑driven and able to thrive in an intense, high‑performance environment.
• Commercially minded with confidence to advise portfolio managers and senior management directly.
