Legal Counsel – Insurance

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Legal Counsel to provide business‑oriented legal advice on insurance and bancassurance products for a leading international banking and financial services organisation. The role involves supporting product development, distribution arrangements, strategic projects and day‑to‑day operations across multiple jurisdictions.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver practical legal advice to insurance and banking stakeholders in various APAC jurisdictions.
• Support insurance product development, distribution models, partnerships and strategic initiatives.
• Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including distribution, service, technology contracts, NDAs and outsourcing arrangements.
• Provide risk‑based guidance on regulatory change projects, governance matters and business transformation.
• Collaborate closely with business, compliance, risk, product, operations and senior management teams.
• Manage cross‑border legal matters and regional stakeholder relationships within an international banking environment.

Required profile

• 7+ years post‑qualification experience, preferably a mix of private practice and in‑house roles in financial services.
• Qualified to practise law in a common‑law jurisdiction.
• Strong background advising on life insurance, general insurance, bancassurance, protection products or wealth‑management related matters.
• Deep understanding of insurance regulatory frameworks and financial‑services regulation in one or more APAC jurisdictions.
• Proactive, hands‑on approach with the ability to balance legal risk against business objectives.

Required skills

• Extensive experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements.
• In‑depth knowledge of insurance regulatory frameworks.
• Ability to work on cross‑border legal issues and manage regional stakeholders.
• Strong commercial acumen and analytical problem‑solving abilities.
