Legal Director - AI Infrastructure & Export Compliance

About the role

The Legal Director supports the company's commercial activity, technology-related work and international operations, with a focus on building sound legal and export compliance foundations. The role works closely with executive leaders and cross-functional teams, builds practical processes and shapes a legal and compliance function as the business grows. It is based in Singapore or Hong Kong and is full-time.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and manage the export control and international trade compliance framework, covering products, software, technology, technical data and cross-border transactions
• Oversee classification and licensing assessments, restricted-party screening, sanctions considerations and end-use reviews
• Interpret applicable regimes such as the U.S. Export Administration Regulations and Singapore strategic goods controls, coordinating with internal teams and external advisors
• Develop policies, controls, training and escalation processes that support compliance without unnecessary bureaucracy

Required profile

• Recognized law degree and qualification to practice in at least one relevant jurisdiction, with significant post-qualification experience
• Strong practical experience in export controls, international trade compliance, sanctions or technology transfer
• Expertise in commercial contracts, corporate governance, intellectual property and regulatory risk
• Familiarity with the U.S. EAR and Singapore strategic goods controls, including classification, licensing, screening and cross-border technology transfers
• Independent judgment, commercial pragmatism and strong stakeholder management skills
