Materials R&D Engineer – High-Performance Alloys

About the role

The Materials R&D Engineer will develop, characterize, and optimise high-performance intermetallic compounds and functional crystalline materials. The role bridges laboratory-scale synthesis with pilot-scale production and supports technology transfer across the company’s global manufacturing sites. New hires will undertake a 6-month to 1-year overseas attachment to gain industrial exposure.

Key responsibilities

• Perform microstructural analysis using SEM, EDX and XRD to evaluate grain boundaries and phase distributions.
• Assist in developing coating and plating solutions to enhance oxidation resistance and durability.
• Translate laboratory synthesis results into robust, repeatable pilot- and production-scale processes.
• Maintain detailed experimental records and correlate processing variables with material performance.
• Support technology and process transfer to manufacturing sites in China, India and Vietnam.
• Collaborate with production, quality and site-engineering teams to troubleshoot material and process issues.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy or Applied Physics.
• 1–3 years of hands‑on experience in a metallurgical lab or R&D environment.
• Familiarity with powder-metallurgy techniques such as pressing, sintering and post-sintering heat treatments.
• Experience with precision measurement tools and statistical process control (SPC).
• Strong spoken and written proficiency in English and Mandarin.
• Willingness to travel frequently and to complete a 6‑month to 1‑year overseas attachment.
